Nemrég jött a hír hogy az idei, a 2012-es Blizzcon nem lesz megtartva, helyette az év vége felé a Battle.net World Championship nevű rendezvény amit valahol Ázsiában fognak majd megrendezni. A versenyen Starcraft 2 és a World of Warcraft aréna bajnoksága fog helyet kapni. Amin az eSport játékosok legjobbjai fogják összemérni a tudásukat egymással szemben.
A Blizzcon elmaradásának oka az idei év sűrűsége ahol többek között a Diablo III, a Mist of Panadria, és a Hearth of Swarm játékok fognak megjelenni. A Blizzcon nem lett véglegesen törölve, hanem csak az idei évben fog elmaradni. A tervek szerint 2013-ban ismét lesz Blizzcon, a megrendezés pontos dátumát és helyét az idei Battle.net World Championship és a 2013-as Blizzconnak a következő hónapokban fogjuk kapni.
